Looking for a musical review

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for a musical review as opposed to a recording technique review for my tune called "Diabolosin".  Check it out and give me your thoughts:

You have a interesting way of putting your arrangements together. Not sure what your using as far as programs and such but in this piece from a musical perspective I have some issues with it.

The guitar is one thing, but the background arrangement is another and the problem for me is I can hear this difference to a degree it is just to noticeable and makes it sound not right.

I know you asked for a musical review and not a recording review however a different mix could make a real difference here. Like in between your lead spots those drums could be more on top of the mix. If the mix is not as good as it could be this could change how the musicial arrangement sounds.

Overall I feel this is a good performance. As I said though the better the background arrangement is and mixed to the guitar the better the musicial will come out I think. The guitar performance is pretty good though despite the other tracks mixed in.

Musically than it has room for improvement but the guitar still shines through as it usually does with your arrangements. I`d like to see the other tracks better match your guitar playing. Whatever your skills are as a guitar player and what you put into that needs to be matched in all the other areas to get that balanced overall sound. If it doesn`t get there and is not balanced it can take away musicially and that isn`t usually a good thing.

Have you ever had someone else record you. Someone of professional experience? Someone that has really good programs like drums etc. and go in and have them work with you. I think the results would be worth it.

Thanks for the review Tim.  I had another review also stating the drums and bass should be brought up front a little more as well.  I record in a shoebox size room and I do it all myself.  The best mix was on Rockin de Fro where it was done by the amazingly talented Tonny Mazza.

It will be something I will need to focus more on in the future.  As a guitarist, I tend to focus and obsess on the guitar parts, so perhaps a separate set of ears would help.

Once again, thanks for your review, much appreciated.

For what you work with you make really fantastic music. Tony is a great choice to work with. I have always believed when you have someone work on your songs you pay them but if it is a true collaboration than in that case sharing credits can suffice. Just depends on the situation and agreement between the parties. I always compensate any musician working on my music except like I said collaborations are different.

Keep making that great music Mo

Superb constructive review/overview from Tim ... this is the real deal rarely seen on most OMD's sites (i.e. the brown nose variety)

Tim helps our musicially creative Mo in the field of recording - an area that can make or break even the best of tracks, and Mo's track is very good, but as Tim points out, it could be so much better with a re-think on the recording technique used.

Tim is a very skilled recording Artist, so the advice is valued indeed.

Good communication guys - excellent!
