Ok... my self introduction of myself. Hmm... umm... err... well... umm...

Obvious stuff first I suppose. I write Electronica music. Chillout, Techno, Dance, Trance, heck I'd write music for every genre - electronic or not - if I could! lol I write music because it comes to me to be written and I know from experience that if I don't "create" something, I get very very depressed. lol So for me, I write music that I enjoy listening to. period. If other people find it nice to listen to as well, all the better! but my driving need to write music stems simply from the desire to enjoy the moment of creation itself.

I took 8 years of piano as a kid (my folks "made" me) and honestly, I was never really that good at it. I discovered by chance that I had a knack for sequencers and MIDI. My piano teacher at the time had a computer and synth which we learned from (record and playback were handy teaching tools), and eventually I was showing him how to do things using the software instead. After that, I begged cajoled and pleaded my folks to get me a keyboard - which they eventually did (an Ensoniq SQ2), and I started using a program called Cakewalk (version 1.0 on the monochrome screens if you can believe it!). Very little of those early days of creation remain, but it instilled in me the desire to get professional training in audio engineering - which I eventually did during my college years.

My artist name Soul Summation came about when I tried to succinctly label the style of music I write. I write from a very personal standpoint, and I usually write with the utmost care given to the mood, the emotion, the feeling.. the general aura I suppose, of my own state of mind. Interestingly, this has had some very intriguing consequences - I wrote the song Genesis around the time my daughter was conceived (1 month before we knew), followed almost immediately by the song Taking Flight. You do the math on that one....

My interests are in philosophy, metaphysics, and good ol' classical science fiction. So many of my songs are philosophical in nature - though I gotta admit a hankerin for some solid dance floor grooves occasionally too! lol

For a recent recap of my songs, I'd say read up on my artist site blog (click the link under the player to the right). I would love to hear from you and will certainly try to return the favor!

I prefer thought provoking philosophical books that revolve around the human elements rather then using props or gimmicks to keep a plot line going. Most of the books listed below revolve around the concept of consciousness and identity and tend to explore those concepts through plot lines that stretch the idea of what it means to be human.

Ben, your new works with Tony is superb ... "Mind & Soul" is a quality example of polished Electronica - its also what I would term `Intelligent` Electronica too, which is no surprise from you guys.

I've included this new works in `POP's pick of the month` for Steve Gilmore's reviews.

Well done Ben & Tony!

Hi Ben, great to see you ... how's things going your side of the world - I guess work is still the main issue (as with most of us)

I'm making a new version of the original film that included your awesome track ... this time I'm keeping Tony's and yours as independent films.

Tony's is complete, yours should be finished soon bro.

First of all, I will second Chris's congratulations on having a number 1 over on the main site. I haven't actually heard ti yet, but I will have a listen as soon as I finish up a few things on my page...another blog entry underway.

Anyway, I thank you for your comment to the message posted on Chris's profile. Yes, life is what you make of it. Mind you, it took me a helluva long time to see that myself, lol. We all get down in the doldrums every nowe and then, I am afraid to say, but it's whether we stay there or rise up out of it that is going to make the difference, I think.

How come it is so much easier to say "I can't" instead of "I can"? It's so much easier to say "it ain't gonna work" than to say "it is gonna work", or, at the very least, "it could work, but I won't know until I give it a try". We can be our worst ene3mies, self defeating as we talk ourselves out of doing what we know we want to do.

Well, obviously, to get that number 1, you did something, cos you wouldn't have gotten it otherwise. If you're anything like me, you probably did it for your own satisfaction, first and foremost, thinking that anything else that comes in addition is a bonus. That's the way I look at it now, self satisfaction first, and if it pleases others, wow, great, even if the music industry might ignore it.

So, yeah, I suppose you could adopt a "life is a bitch and then you die" attitude, cos life does have a tendency to throw a few curves at us. Nevertheless, as I am discovering, after crawling out of my own deep dark pit, life is still worthiwhile after all, if you just smile. Charlie Chaplin was right when he wrote that song SMILE. You know, it actually takes more effort to frown.

Anyway, thanks for the comment and sure do hope things going well in your neck of the woods. Stay productive. It's all worth it.

Bryan
